OUR WHY?

Children’s safety is paramount to us therefore, we believe that every child and young person deserves to be cared for in an environment where he/she feels safe, loved and genuinely cared for and by people that value children’s rights. We believe that every child is accepted, and his/her identity is valued and promoted. We also believe in the active participation and empowerment of every young person/child.

We trust that every child and young person has the capacity to achieve/excel so much in life when in the right environment, the opportunity, and appropriate level of support by a group of passionate professionals working with one goal which is being “child centred”.

How?

We believe in the same the vision of the department of Children, youth Justice and Multicultural Affairs, that ‘Queensland children and young people are cared for, protected, safe and able to reach their full potential”. We therefore choose to change the below description of young people and children. In all of our conversations and descriptions we will address young people as

  • Young people/children in the community instead of Children/young people in care
  • Young people/children with different abilities instead of troubled children or young people

Cultural sensitivity/Competence

  • We Observe important holidays, cultural meal and beliefs that make the young person a unique individual. Young people might feel devalued if their cultural heritage or what is important to them is ignored or not celebrated. We excel at JCC in promoting and celebrating the cultural heritage of the people we provide support to.
  • Diverse and well-trained work force who are culturally sensitive and understand that being emotionally competent and self-aware are the keys to working successfully with young people to provide a safe and caring environment
  • Strength based approach in providing a person centred and holistic support for the young person which focuses on the strengths and interests to empower them reach their full potentials.
  • Ability to collaborate and negotiate with key stakeholders for the benefit of the child or young person in our care such as:
    • Connecting young people to culturally appropriate support and other mainstream services
    • adolescence and rites of passage
    • Financial literacy for young people
    • Understanding Human rights, law and order
    • Protective Behaviours
